Kano Muslim Girl Reunited With Family Years After Abduction and conversion

By Yusufawa Spikin.

Kano, Nigeria — What began as an ordinary day at Rimi Market near Murtala Hospital in Kano would turn into harrowing nightmare for a family, following the kidnap of their three-year-old daughter. Zainab had been kidnapped without a trace six years ago.

However, in a twist of fate, the child—now a teenager—was discovered in Onitsha, Anambra State and now rescued by NAPTIP, where she had been raised as a Christian and no longer spoke Hausa, the language of her birth.

Recounting the ordeal, her brother Muhd king Cash as he is known on facebook recounts how they heard an announcement on radio by NAPTIP. Which urged anyone who had a missing child to come to their office. He said that the girl whose name was Zainab at the time was kidnapped when she was 3.

When her biological family finally met her again, she struggled to recognize them. But through months of patience, love, and faith, the bond gradually rekindled. In a touching moment, Zainab eventually called them “family” once more. 💔

Zainab’s ordeal, however, is not an isolated case. Similar incidents of child abduction from Northern to Southern Nigeria have been reported over the years, sparking outrage and grief among affected communities.

In response, a growing network of parents and activists under the Coalition of Parents for the Abducted Children in Kano State (COPACK) has begun mobilizing efforts to draw government attention to the crisis.

COPACK and its partners are calling for a nationwide investigation, stronger border surveillance between states, and harsher penalties for child traffickers.

As Zainab’s story shows, behind every headline is a family’s pain and a hope that justice will prevail.
