At least 8 Security Forces Killed in Tsafe–Funtua Highway Ambush

Zamfara, Nigeria – October 17, 2025 — Security forces were reportedly killed on Thursday following an ambush by an armed group along the popular Tsafe–Funtua Highway in Zamfara State. The incident marks the latest in a wave of violent attacks that have intensified across Zamfara,Nigeria’s northwest.

According to local reports, gunmen intercepted a security patrol vehicle near Tsafe town, opening fire and causing multiple casualties. Reinforcement teams were deployed to the area, though official figures on fatalities remain unconfirmed at the time of publication.

The attack comes amid growing concerns that armed factions in Zamfara have resolved to escalate their operations to pressure both local communities and government authorities into negotiations. Residents say the recent surge in violence has disrupted trade routes and forced many families to flee.

Among the figures drawing renewed attention is Ado Aleru, a well-known armed leader who remains engaged in talks with state officials but is alleged to continue coordinating violent operations. His ongoing influence has raised questions about the effectiveness of peace negotiations and the government’s broader security approach.

The renewed wave of attacks would further deepen the already volatile humanitarian crisis in Zamfara. Communities along major highways such as Tsafe–Funtua are living under constant threat, with most either displaced or lost their means of livelihood.

Experts have stressed the need for a lasting security framework in Zamfara. This will require a combination of stronger intelligence operations, community dialogue, and accountability for perpetrators.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
