as part of ongoing reconciliation efforts in the North West region.According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the release was the outcome of sustained dialogue and confidence-building measures led by community leaders under the framework of the North West Operation Safe Corridor peace process.
The freed captives, including men, women, and children, were handed over to local authorities and subsequently transported to a medical facility for evaluation before being reunited with their families.
A source involved in the negotiation disclosed that the gesture formed part of a wider understanding reached with Turji’s faction to promote peace and end years of hostilities across affected communities.
“An initial batch of 36 persons was released, followed by another eight, bringing the number to 46. The remaining individuals were freed subsequently, raising the total to over 100,” the source confirmed.
The source further indicated that additional releases are expected in the coming days as talks between Turji’s group and mediators continue to advance.
Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to closely monitoring the peace process to ensure its credibility and to prevent any party from exploiting the negotiations to regroup or rearm.
