Armed terrorists, locally referred to as bandits, have attacked Muslim farmers on the outskirts of Dayi town in Malumfashi Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State, killing a respected elder and abducting several others.
Witnesses say the attackers ambushed the farmers early Tuesday morning as they worked on their farmlands. Among those killed was Alhaji Mani Mai Taki, a prominent community elder and Muslim leader known for his peacebuilding efforts in the area.
The assault occurred less than a week after Malumfashi LGA reached a peace agreement with the armed groups operating in the region—an initiative aimed at curbing persistent insecurity in southern Katsina.
Malumfashi, a predominantly Muslim community, has faced repeated attacks by bandits over the past few years, leading to loss of lives, displacement, and disruption of agricultural activities.
Security forces have reportedly been deployed to the area to restore calm and pursue the attackers, though authorities have yet to issue an official statement as of press time.
